Tom Thomson Trail - # 53

Owen Sound

Length: 43.4 km from Owen Sound to Meaford
Difficulty: Variable from easy to challenging
Surface: Crushed stone dust; hard-packed surfaces with some rough sections; and quiet roadways.

Uses: Hiking, Biking and Horse-back riding, Equestrian

The Tom Thomson Trail (TTT) is a relatively new trail which connects Owen Sound and Meaford, using purpose built trails and quiet country roads. It has been developed by a volunteer group relying on fundraising and in-kind donations. The trail was known as the missing link in the Bruce Grey Trails Master Plan, since there was not an abandoned rail bed to follow. The objective of the TTT Group is to complete more off-road sections of trail and they are currently working to establish a walking/hiking section of trail on unopened Side Road 22 in the Municipality of Meaford between the 9th Line and the 11th Line.

The Tom Thomson Trail connects the many trails, which meet in Owen Sound with the well-used and popular Georgian Trail, which begins in Meaford and continues to Collingwood.

Access: Main access point is the north end of the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre parking lot in Owen Sound (north end of 2nd Ave East). Look for the Trailhead Kiosk next to the start of the Trail.

Access at the Meaford end of the trail is at the Harbour. A trailhead kiosk is in the development phase
